Sunnyland Neighborhood

This neighborhood dates mainly back to the 1920s, though it includes the "First Addition to New Whatcom," which was platted in 1889, and the "Sunnyland Addition," platted in 1908. The area is generally known for its comfortable older two-story homes to the north and smaller homes to the east.

Assumption Roman Catholic Church on Cornwall is one of the city's largest and finest examples of a Gothic revival building. Other sites of interest: Sunnyland Park (Bellingham's second oldest), the newly remodeled Bellingham High School and Sunnyland School. Light industrial development has increased recently along Ohio Street and north of Whatcom Creek, while commercial development has concentrated on the James Street corridor.
