When will Congress act on our behalf? The economic health of our country seems to rise and fall with the actions/inactions of our government. President Obama makes a speech and the stock market falls 400 points, then recovers 300 points the next day. Congress argues about the budget and out economy goes into freefall. The inaction of Congress demoralizes many Americans.
Many political pundits are now talking about the fact that Congress is the branch of our government with the most power to do something that will cause a change to our economic condition. The President can propose actions, but only Congress can decide to pay for it. But Congress is in grid lock.
I can appreciate the position taken by the Republicans and by the Democrats. I am a liberal, but I am a fiscal conservative. I appreciate that both sides are sticking to their values and beliefs and promises to their constituents.
But, there has to be a point where both sides can find ground to work together for the good of the Nation as a whole. Our economic condition will not get better until that happens. Home sales will stay low. Home prices will be depressed. Foreclosures (up this month) will continue. And on.
I've learned in this business that a great percentage of our gross national product is tied directly to home construction and home sales. And people won't buy or sell homes in the economic climate we are currently in.
