I had the pleasure to seatrial a boat with a friend last Saturday. We sailed out of Blaine, WA which is along side the border with Canada. Much of the time we were out, we saw the Canadian border patrol, and a large coast guard cutter. So I guess we were safe.
Great boat. One of a kind built by an old shipwright 20 years ago. Full keel, 17000 lbs, around 39 ft. in length. Center cockpit with cabins fore and aft.
I tend to be critical of full keel boats for bay sailing. They are generally heavy and unresponsive in light winds. But this boat was wonderful. We were easily doing 5 kts in about 10 kts wind. And sailing faster than several fin keel boats around us.
Needless-to-say, this was fun. Anytime I am on the water is fun.
