Hiking in the Cascades in 2011

Posted on July 29, 2011
There is so much snow in the North Cascades this summer that there is no hiking on high country trails. There may be some open trails on the south side of Mt Baker--next week's exploration.

So we've been looking for other trails to hike. The picture on the left is a small lake at the end of a trail out of Granite Falls near Pilchuck. Near Lake 22 trail. Easy trail--about 4.2 miles round trip, and about 1100 ft elevation. The lake is surrounded by steep clifs and waterfalls. Evidence of avalanches all around the lake. All very pretty and worth the hike. Great Mexican restaurant in Granite Falls.
