Home Sales Are Booming in Seattle! Will it Happen in Bellingham?

Posted on February 3, 2010
I am selling a home in Bellingham for a client who is moving to Seattle. Her agent in Seattle told me that she is the busiest that she has ever been in her long career in real estate. Most of her clients these days are people wanting to buy a home in the Seattle area. I asked why so many people are buying. She told me that there are many new jobs in the area.

A few days later, while attending a business meeting at my office, a vice president from Coldwell Banker in Seattle made similar comments about the market in Seattle--it's booming. He said that all of the big companies in Seattle (like Microsoft, Starbucks, Amazon) are all profitable and hiring. Wow!

So as a real eatate agent in Bellingham, the obvious question from me is: Will this happen in Bellingham? And if so, when?

Bellingham typically is 3 or 4 months behind Seattle in real estate sales--it takes 3 or 4 months for us to slow, and to speed up compared to Seattle. Therefore, the prediction is that the Bellingham market will "heat up" in about 3 or 4 months, around spring time. We'll have to wait and see. But the anecdotal evidence suggests that home sales are starting to get stronger. Personally, I am building up my infrastructure in preparation for the busy times.
